LC Athletic Director Mike Holloman hopes to officially name a new coach this coming week following the resignation of John Thomas at the conclusion of the 2011 season.

DREAMS camp scheduled
BUNN -- The annual D.R.E.A.M.S. Sports Girls and Boys Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 27-July 1 at the Bunn Dome.
The event is open to children ages 5-17 and will run from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. each day.
Cost is $50 per person. Campers will receive instruction from past and current Bunn High School players and coaches.

BUNN -- Head Coach Leonard Allen will oversee the progress of his Bunn High School baseball program with a pair of summer-league teams.
Action will begin on June 13 for BHS’ Junior and Senior squads. The junior club will be represented by prospective JV players, while varsity performers will compete for the senior contingent.

FRANKLINTON -- Last Wednesday proved to be quite a day for Franklinton High School senior Morgan Tharrington.
Around 3 p.m., Tharrington made her future plans final -- at least for the next two years -- as she signed a letter-of-intent to continue her career at Louisburg College.
The fun, however, was just starting for Tharrington, who then headed to the annual Franklinton Athletic Awards Ceremony at the historic FHS Auditorium.

Arrington receives plea deal
A Franklinton man accused of murder was sentenced to more than 30 years in jail this week.
Rashawn Arrington’s sister, who helped him flee to Virginia, avoided prosecution as part of a plea deal.
In court on Tuesday, the family of the victim, Jesse Montague Jr., begrudgingly accepted the arrangement, but wished the worst for the triggerman, who they said had a long history of violence in the community.

Franklin County staff will present commissioners and the public with a budget proposal on Wednesday that cuts 21 positions, calls for employee furloughs, puts a halt to overtime in public safety, and cuts spending by more than 5 percent across departments.
But the tax rate will remain steady at 87.25 cents per $100 of valuation.

While awaiting the state’s financial “shoe” to drop and learn how deep the state cuts to education will be, the Franklin County Board of Education finds itself facing a double whammy from the county as well.
The proposed Franklin County budget’s share of school costs contains a reduction of about $750,000 in operating and capital expense funds below what school officials had asked the county to provide.

Remorseful thief avoids jail time
A Franklin County man avoided jail time after giving a sobbing mea culpa in court last week.
Investigators arrested Kyle Neville, 18, after they allege he broke into a friend’s house on Gordon Moore Road during the early morning hours of Dec. 28, stealing more than $9,000 the family had stashed in a milk jug.
During the May 25 court session, Neville’s attorney, Darnell Batton, told Judge R. Allen Baddour Jr., that Neville was the most contrite and remorseful client he had ever represented.
