The groom-elect is the son of Ralph and Tricia Wynne of Henderson (Epsom Community). The wedding will take place Saturday, July 24, at 5 p.m. at Liberty United Church of Christ.

Plea deal reached in Jackson murder case
A plea deal reached in Franklin County Superior Court on Tuesday got an accused murderer out of jail.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested Gregory Jackson on Feb. 2, charging him with first-degree murder in the death of Alton Johnson, 24.
On Tuesday, Jackson pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

In a Tuesday announcement, Phyllis Culbreth, president of D&J, said that “General Motors  included D&J Automotive in the nationwide wind-down of many of its dealers as part of its federal bankruptcy proceedings.

Franklin County residents had a full weekend to celebrate Independence Day, from festivities in Alert to Franklinton.
Lake Royale got things started on Saturday morning with its annual Fourth of July parade.
Raleigh and Lake Royale resident William Bunn was to serve as the grand marshal, but he succumbed to illness earlier in the week. Festivities at the Lake went on in his honor.

A Bunn man held investigators at bay before shooting himself in the head.
William Krough, 32, survived his injuries.
According to a report by Dep. Gerrod Gay, deputies responded the evening of July 2 to a call at 39 Lemmie Drive where Krough was threatening suicide.

Franklin County Manager Angela Harris could be getting an early Christmas present — some help in the office.
The Franklin Board of Commissioners approved a $68.7 million budget in June that includes some new positions, including an assistant county manager post.
That position was eliminated in 2003 — with Harris still in it.

On Saturday, Bunn was slated again to be the center of attention; unfortunately, the eight-year-old died of cancer days before he was to be the Lake Royale Independence Day parade grand marshal.

The long-awaited fireworks display in Castalia fizzled due to a scheduling snafu, spoiling a long tradition of dazzling Fourth of July celebrations held in the Nash County town which touts itself as “the place to be on the Fourth of July.”
Town leaders and the Fourth of July committee poured long hours and sweat equity into the community celebration, which was filled with food, fun, and entertainment. But when the time came for the main attraction, it became apparent that there was a problem.

Court case continued for former college administrator
The case against a former Louisburg College administrator was continued until later this month.
Carl Justin Berg was slated to appear in Wake County District Court last month, but his case was continued until July 26.
Berg, 35, was an assistant dean for judicial affairs at Louisburg College from July 2008 until June 21, when he resigned after being arrested following a gun-related altercation at a Wake Forest restaurant.

Nashville man stabbed
A Fourth of July stabbing left a Nashville man in critical condition and another in jail.
According to Lt. Eddie Moore of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to the intersection of Greenfield Lane and West Castalia Road around 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 4 about to a stabbing.
