She was born in Youngsville, NC to Jack Allen Green, Sr. and Helen Hart Green. Mattie grew up in Youngsville and later graduated from Wake Forest College where she met her future husband, Harold Reddick. Mattie and Harold were married over 62 years and had a son, Harold (Rick) Reddick, Jr.
