Georgia Browning
December 16, 1950 - April 12, 2025

Charlotte, NC -- Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Georgia Griffin Browning, 74 of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, due to a stroke. She was surrounded by her devoted husband of 51 years, Mel Browning, and daughter, Ashlynn Browning Greene.

Georgia was born on December 16, 1950, in Louisburg, NC.

She grew up with a strong affinity for nature and horseback riding and loved tagging along on adventures with her adored father, businessman and pilot, Willam Floyd Griffin.

After graduating from Meredith College in 1973, Georgia married her college sweetheart, Mel, at Louisburg Baptist Church.

They raised their children Ashlynn and Will in Charlotte, NC where they have been members of Providence Baptist Church for over 45 years. The church remained a steadfast source of faith, friendship and community to Georgia, where she served over the years as a Sunday school teacher, afterschool tutor, and bereavement committee member.

Georgia's many talents all centered on cultivating beauty in the world. Every thing and every life she touched, she made more lovely. Her artistic nature manifested in a love of gardening, baking, fashion, interiors, and antiques. Just as she had a sharp eye for finding treasures in unexpected places, Georgia had a gift for seeing the true spirit and beauty in people from all walks of life.

Always an avid reader, literature was very important to Georgia. In addition to being a teacher, she worked for over a decade as a children's book buyer for Bedford Falls, where she delighted in instilling a love of reading and illustration in young children. She also served as a children's reading tutor for many years through her church's program.

Georgia was noted for her grace, beauty and poise. Her kind, gentle nature belied a steely inner strength that, along with her faith, helped her weather many of life's storms. While grieving this immense loss, the family takes comfort in knowing she is at home in heaven and reunited with loved ones.

Georgia is survived by her husband, Mel Browning; daughter, Ashlynn Browning Greene and her husband, Ray; grandsons, Thomas and Henry Greene, and many extended family and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Floyd and Eva Griffin; brother, William Floyd Griffin, Jr., and her son, William Melville Browning.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Rd. Charlotte, NC. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Donations may be made to the non-profit charitable organization The Browning Retreat, 616 Courtney Lane, Matthews, NC 28105 and to Providence Baptist Church "Rama Road Elementary Tutoring Program."

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
