Many county offices
closing for holiday
Many Franklin County offices will be closed all day Friday, April 18, in observance of Good Friday.
All county libraries will be closed both Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19; the solid waste transfer station will be open Friday from 7 a.m. until noon; all convenience centers will be open on their regular 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. schedule; and the county's airport will be open as usual.
However, all other county offices will be closed on Friday.

Church women sponsor blood drive
Louisburg United Methodist Church will be hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Monday, May 5, from 1 to 6 p.m.
This blood drive is a service project of the Louisburg Women in Faith. If you are healthy and eligible, please come out to donate. Only 3% of the general population donates blood and there is a constant need for blood, organizers said.
Most donations take about an hour, so book your appointment at www.redcrossblood.org, roll up your sleeve and become a part of the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.

Next 'bird walk' slated for Saturday
The next "bird walk" of the Franklin County Bird Watchers will be Saturday, April 19, at 7:30 a.m. at Owens Park on Massenburg Baker Road in Louisburg. Those attending should meet in the parking lot.
Bring binoculars and cameras if you have them, organizers said. "Migration is heating up so hope to see everyone then," said Lee Justice, one of the event's organizers. For more information, call Justice at 919-495-2516.

4-H summer sessions planned
4-H and Franklin County Cooperative Extension are planning Sizzling Summer Sessions 2025 where there will be face-to-face opportunities for youth ages 5-18 to create summer memories through fun and hands-on activities. Camp times vary.

Spanish CPR and safety training
Spanish CPR and safety training for farmworkers classes will begn at 9 a.m. Friday, May 9, at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annex, 103 South Bickett Blvd, Louisburg.
This training will satisfy GAP Connections requirement, and cover workers' protection standards, green tobacco sickness, heat stress, CPR and will be conducted in Spanish. To register for the training, contact the Cooperative Extension office at 919-496-3344.

Spring plant sale in Bunn
The Bunn Garden Club will be having its annual spring plant sale on April 26 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 361 NC Hwy 98 West in Bunn. The garden club will also have various baskets for raffles and hot dogs and baked goods for sale.

Women in Ag farm tours slated
Discover local food, new winery, Tempest Cellars, flower and fiber farms here in diversified Franklin County! Nine countywide farms will be open to the public on Sunday, May 11, (rain or shine), from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Hardly Farm near Centerville will open at 1 p.m.
This year's 4th Annual Women in Ag "Local Foods" Tour is dedicated to the Franklin County Women in Ag group and its promotion of agritourism in Franklin County.

Sheep shearing days planned
For those who have sheep or alpacas that need shearing, the Cooperative Extension, Franklin County Center, is planning to have a professional sheep shearer from West Virginia visit the county on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11, to shear sheep for producers in the area.
If you would like to be included in their visit, contact Martha Mobley, Ag agent, at martha_mobley@ncsu.edu or call 919-496-3344, to schedule a time for your farm's visit. Price is based on a per head basis and each farm set-up fee.
A live demonstration of sheep shearing for the public will be held on Sunday morning, May 11, during the Fourth Annual 'Women in Ag' Local Food & Fiber Tour at one of the farm stops. Nine Franklin County farms will be showcased on this free tour.

Annual Good Friday Fish Fry
American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton will hold its annual Good Friday Fish Fry Fundraiser on April 18 at 40 American Legion Road from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Fish plates, including traditional sides, are $10 each. Dine in or take out is available.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 52 will be holding a bake sale in conjunction with the fish plate fundraiser. Various baked goods will be available for $1 to $3 each. Cash only please.

New 'pint night' events planned
American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton is inviting all veterans and spouses/significant others to a new monthly event - Pint Night.
The event is a relaxed, social atmosphere away from the structured business meetings that are held at the Post, organizers said. It is a way for veterans of all ages to come together to share experiences, needs, and ideas on how veterans can be supported within our communities.
The event also helps recognize and patronize local small businesses that invest in our communities.
The next Pint Night is on May 7 at 7 p.m. at Yacht Club Beverage House in Youngsville. All veterans are welcome. You do not have to be a member of The American Legion to attend.

'No Pool' party is planned
The Franklin Chapter of Down Home NC will be hosting a "No Pool" Party on Saturday, April 26, at Franklinton Park, 99 Park Avenue in Franklinton, beginning at 11 a.m., in support of their campaign to demand a new county run, indoor pool facility. There will be food, a live DJ and, unfortunately, "No Pool" yet. For more information and to RSVP, please visit dhnc.info/nopoolparty.

Louisburg Art Crawl scheduled
A Louisburg Art Crawl is planned for 3 to 7 p.m. April 19 in downtown Louisburg to showcase local artists, interactive activities for all ages and a festive atmosphere.
Local artists and makers are planning to set up inside participating businesses, offering a diverse selection of handmade crafts, artwork and one-of-a-kind pieces for sale.
Organizers said there will be family-friendly fun at Three Lions Pub Kids Alley, a designated space with activities and giveaways designed for children.
In addition there will be an Easter egg hunt and natural egg dying by the town's amphitheater brought to you by the Interfaith Council. Using natural dyes, participants will be able to create beautiful, eco-friendly Easter eggs while embracing traditional techniques. Fish or chicken plate sale
Terrell Lane Middle School Athletics will have a plate sale, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., today, April 17, at the TLMS gym parking lot. Choose from fish or chicken. Includes sides and a drink. Cost is $12 per plate. All proceeds go to TLMS athletic department.

Father-son, mother-daughter dance
The Franklin County 4-H Father-Son, Mother-Daughter dance for families and 4-H'ers is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Franklin Plaza, (beside Tractor Supply), 279 S. Bickett Blvd, Louisburg. Light refreshments, photo ops and lots of dancing are planned, organizers said.

Food Safety course planned
A ServSafe Food Safety course and exam will be offered at N.C. Cooperative Extension, Franklin County Center Annex,103 S. Bickett Boulevard, in Louisburg beginning at 9 a.m. each day. May 19-20 are instruction days from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; May 21 will be the exam day from 9 until 11 a.m.

Business grant opportunity
In an effort to promote business growth in Northeast Franklin County as well as Franklin County, NC in general, the Northeast Franklin Revitalization (NEFR) Group is offering a grant program to encourage new businesses and help expand existing small businesses under two years old and with a workforce of three or less.
The grant amount will be $650 each, awarded to 10 small businesses to start or expand a small business in Franklin County.
Free entrepreneurial 4-week evening class attendance through Vance-Granville Community College is required, with classes beginning May 1. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Deadline to apply is midnight, April 20.

Justice Fire Dept. BBQ Plate sale
Justice Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a plate sale on Saturday, April 19.
Plates will be $12 each and feature either barbecue pork or chicken with all the fixin's.
Sales will begin at 11 a.m. at the fire department or D&J in Louisburg.

Car and Truck show
Oak Grove Lodge #393 will have a Car and Truck Show, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26 at the former D&J Automotive, 1188 US 401 Hwy S., Louisburg. There is a $20 registration fee per entry, with trophies awarded.

White Level BBQ
White Level Fire Department will have their Pork or Chicken BBQ, 11 a.m. until sold out, Saturday, April 26. Eat-in or take-out at the White Level Fire Department, 2465 White Level Road, Louisburg; or take-out only at the old D&J in Louisburg, Hwy. 56. The auction begins at 2 p.m.

Boys and Girls Club BBQ fundraiser
A barbecue plate fundraiser to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club is planned for Monday, April 28, at Johnny's Barbecue in Louisburg.
Plates will be available from 4 to 7 p.m., drive through only, and will include barbecue, potato salad, slaw and hushpuppies. Cost is $12.
Tickets can be purchased at Blue Collie Coffee in Louisburg or from any board member.
