KITTRELL - Vereonia B. Cheek, 92, died Monday, May 30, 2016 at Louisburg Nursing Center in Louisburg. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, at 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Louisburg. Burial will follow in the Haywood Baptist Church cemetery, Louisburg.
Surviving: daughters, Althea C. Kearney and Carolyn C. Beals, both of Washington, D.C.; son, James B. Cheek of Columbia, Md.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cheek was such a sweet lady. She was my Head Start teacher and she worked hard to make us responsible people. I remember how proud she was of me when I learned to set the table correctly. She was a champion to many young children.
