Delton Earl Nelms
June 9, 1937 - May 18, 2022

CASTALIA, NC--Delton Nelms, 84, of Castalia and the Red Bud Community passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022. He was born June 9, 1937 in Franklin County, to the late George Allen Nelms and Hettie Davis Nelms. In addition to his parents, Delton was preceded in death by his five brothers, Melvin Nelms, Clemon Nelms, Ensley Nelms, T.O. Nelms and Lloyd Nelms and his sister, Veryl N. Wood.

Delton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy W. Nelms, his daughters, Jamie N Beckham and her husband, Tony of Louisburg; Karen Nelms of Nashville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew Edwards (Rachel) of Battleboro, Jeremy Edwards (Krystal) of Rocky Mount, Jordan B. Bunn (Justin)of Louisburg, Andrew Beckham (Allison) of Castalia, and Daniel Moore of Greenville, NC; three great grandchildren, Nolan and Eden Bunn, Rhett Beckham, and two baby girls on the way that will have memories shared with them. "Pops" loved each one dearly. He is also survived by his sister, Carlette N. Adams of Knightdale and numerous nieces and nephews.

Delton served in the US. Army Reserve for six years. He worked with Servomation in Rocky Mount until 1974 until he returned to the Red Bud community to farm the land he loved so much. He was a hard-working man and was dedicated to his family. Delton was the first fire chief of White Level Fire Department where he served for 20 years. Delton was an avid softball player, playing many years in Rocky Mount with the Avis team. He also played for many years in the church softball league at the Red Bud Ballfield. After retiring from farming, he worked with the Franklin County Health Office as an animal control officer.

Graveside services will be held 10 am Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Red Bud Baptist Church Cemetery on Hwy. 58, Castalia, NC. Delton will lie in repose at the funeral home on Friday 11:30 am to 5 pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall and at other times at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Red Bud Baptist Church, 832 NC Hwy. 58, Castalia, NC 27816.
