Ernestine J. Hagwood
January 2, 1937 - October 20, 2022

LOUISBURG, NC--Ernestine Jeffreys Hagwood, 85, of Louisburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2022 after a six year battle with Alzheimer's disease. A native of Franklin County, she was the daughter of Willie and Seddie Perkerson Jeffreys.

As a wife and homemaker, Ernestine possessed the virtues of a Godly woman as described in Proverbs 31. She had a special love for the elderly and along with her best friend, Linnie Murphrey, were leaders of the Sunshine Club at Pilot Baptist Church for a number of years. She spent countless hours visiting shut-ins and nursing home residents. A gifted pianist, she was voted Most Talented Superlative of her 1955 graduating class at Bunn High School and played the piano at several local churches.

Ernestine is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, Wayne Hagwood; sister, Lucille Perry of Bunn; brother, Donald Jeffreys (Rachel) of Bunn; sister in-law, Melanie Jeffreys of Louisburg and a step-daughter, Julie Ramey (Rodney) of Stem.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Travis Driver and Willis Blackley; sisters, Willie Mae Fuller and Inez Mullen Crater; brother, Jimmy Jeffreys and a step-daughter, Cheryl Nowell.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2022. in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Tabernacle, 394 Ferrells Bridge Rd., Louisburg, NC 27549 where she was a member.
