Mattie Green Reddick
RALEIGH, NC -- Mattie Green Reddick passed away peacefully of natural causes at age 98 on March 26, 2025 at her residence at The Rosewood Health Center (The Cypress) in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Youngsville, NC to Jack Allen Green, Sr. and Helen Hart Green. Mattie grew up in Youngsville and later graduated from Wake Forest College where she met her future husband, Harold Reddick. Mattie and Harold were married over 62 years and had a son, Harold (Rick) Reddick, Jr. After graduation, Mattie remained in Youngsville and had a career as an accounting clerk with the U.S. Marshals Service for 31 years. She also worked to serve her community in many ways. She worked with the late Mary Charlie Corpening, Margaret Moss, and others to help found the Youngsville Woman's Club in 1955. She and her husband Harold were also instrumental in helping to preserve Youngsville's oldest church which has been developed by the Youngsville Woman's Club and others to be Youngsville's Museum of History. However, some might consider Mattie's greatest contribution to the community her family's vegetable-chicken soup recipe which was used by the Youngsville Woman's Club during their Annual Soup and Sandwich fundraiser for over 60 years. Mattie was also a life-long member of the Youngsville Baptist Church. She remained a proud citizen of Youngsville for 85 years until she moved to The Cypress of Raleigh where she enjoyed playing bridge, dining with old and new friends, and being close to her son and daughter-in-law. Mattie will be remembered as a wonderful and caring person to all who knew her. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Reddick; her son Harold (Rick) H. Reddick, Jr.; her brother Jack Allen Green, Jr.; her sister-in-law Shirley Green; and her nephews Jack A. Green III, and Mark Reddick. Mattie is survived by her daughter-in-law Kelly Reddick as well as nieces and nephews and their families including Carol Green, Walter Green (Paula), Sally Green (wife of the late Jack A. Green III), Haul Reddick III (Mary), Cathryn Reddick, Charles Reddick (Sue), Bruce Reddick (Bethylee), Debra Reddick (wife of the late Mark Reddick) and by her cousin, Alice "Benji" Steed. A funeral service will be officiated by Interim Pastor Dr. Bill Pyle and Rev. Charles Stratton at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Youngsville Baptist Church.
