Organizers and retailers are preparing for a crush when lottery tickets go on sale Thursday.
The North Carolina Education Lottery and its contractor, GTECH Corp., began shipping out more than 100 million tickets to retail outlets across the state in order to begin selling them at 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Racial slur on campaign sign prompts investigation
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a vandalism as a possible hate crime. According to authorities, a passing motorist noticed that one of Joe Lynch’s campaign signs was spray painted with what was intended to be a racial slur.

BUNN -- Considering the injury and illness problems that her team has experienced this year, Bunn High girls coach Ashley Olinger wasn’t about to feel sorry for the Nash Central Lady Bulldogs Thursday at the BHS Soccer Field.
With Nash Central down seven players -- six to a school conflict and another (star Carly Pitt) to an injury, the Lady Bulldogs proved to be no match for BHS during a 3-0 Ladycats’ victory in a non-league matchup.
