The score was tied at 7-7 early in the second quarter before the host Trojans rattled off 27 consecutive points to pull away for the decision over Coach Chris Miller’s squad.

STANHOPE — Two power-hungry teams met for a final preseason tune-up Thursday evening at Southern Nash’s Firebird Stadium. Predictably, host Southern Nash and Louisburg, both of which are expected to rely on their ground games this fall, stuck to the basics during the intense, hard-fought event that paid dividends for both rosters.

FRANKLINTON — Other than the wildly successful Crystal Barnes Era earlier this decade, the Franklinton High School volleyball program has always been in search of continuity. That opportunity brought Ericka Wilkins to Franklinton, as she has accepted the chance to coach the Lady Rams this season.

LOUISBURG — In 2005, Louisburg College posted the best record (11-12 overall) during the four-year re-existence of its volleyball program, which was resuscitated after two decades of hibernation. LC head coach Jenna Hinton expects even bigger things this fall, thanks to the return of five starters, along with what might be her most touted recruiting class for LC.

HENDERSON - For a few moments last Saturday, Coach Chris Miller saw his Franklinton High football squad slip into its 2005 mentality.
During that campaign, the Red Rams constantly battled self-confidence issues on their way to posting a winless record.
