MARY OLA MCALISTER (July 13, 1923 - April 19, 2009)
FRANKLINTON - Mary Ola McAlister, age 85, of Franklinton, formerly of Bostic, NC, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at home in Franklinton after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Mary was born on July 13, 1923 in Ellenboro, NC, daughter of the late Leroy and Essie Dobbins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers; her sister; her husband, William James C. McAlister of 66 years; and her eldest son, James Spencer McAlister.

She was an avid quilter and knitter, quilting more than 800 quilts during her life, giving them to family and friends all across the country. She loved teaching children to quilt and knit. She was an active worker with the youth in her church, teaching Sunday School classes and as a worker in the nursery as long as her health allowed.

She is survived by her children, Louis McAlister and his wife, Peggy, of Franklinton, Frances Kiser of Charlotte, Sherri Childrey of Charlotte; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Family received friends Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 504 East Mason St., Franklinton, NC 27525 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Union View Baptist Church, 13 Chavis St., Franklinton, NC at 2 p.m., followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Union View Baptist Church “Food Pantry,” P. O. Box 585, Franklinton, NC 27525, or to Hospice of Franklinton, 3320 US 1 Highway, Suite B, Franklinton, NC 27525.
