WILMINGTON - Edith Kirby Lancaster, 69, passed away at her home in Wilmington on July 18, 2006.
She was born on September 9, 1936 in Wayne County, NC to the late Richard E. Kirby and Winnie Eva Taylor Kirby. Remembered are her grandparents, Barney and Leckie Musgrave Kirby, and a half brother, Tommy Kirby.
Edith was a graduate of The Medical College of Virginia, with a degree in x-ray technology. During the thirty years that she worked in her area of expertise, she served as the Diagnostic Manager of the Radiology Department at Pitt Memorial Hospital, as well as manager of both the X-ray department at Glenn R. Frye Hospital and Catawba Radiological Associates, both located in Hickory, North Carolina.
Edith is survived by her two sons, Don Lancaster and wife Terry of Youngsville, NC, and John Richard Lancaster and wife Letty of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Ramsey and Logan Lancaster of Youngsville, and Austin, Hunter, Grayson and Gabriela Lancaster of Wilmington. She is also survived by her aunt, Addie Spencer Taylor, and by a special sister. Lexine Kirby Williams, and her husband Jim Williams of Morganton, NC.
Known to her grandchildren as Eddie Bell, Edith was a grandmother who always had their favorite food ready and her home was always open for them to come and visit. Edith had a special love and affection for her dachshund Tuffy. Divorced when her two sons were young, Edith worked very hard and provided everything her boys needed to succeed in life, putting her own needs aside. She was an exemplary parent who tried to instill right from wrong in her children. She was an active member at Harbor United Methodist Church and will be missed by so many of those who knew her.
A celebration of life ceremony was held at 7 pm on Friday, July 21, 2006 at Harbor United Methodist Church at 4853 Masonboro Loop Road in Wilmington, NC. There will be a burial service at 11 am Saturday at the Musgrave Family Cemetery on Antioch Church Road in Pikeville, NC.
