FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Betty Gordon Wilson (nee Poole), 70, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church, Spotsylvania, Va., with the Rev. Alan R. Hager and the Rev. H. Carson Rhyne Jr. officiating. Interment will be at noon on Saturday, June 20, in Aquia Episcopal Church cemetery, Stafford, Va.

She was born in Franklin County to the late Milton and Elizabeth Poole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Harper A. Gordon and John M. Wilson, M.D. She was a teacher in the Fredericksburg City school system in Virginia for more than 25 years. She was often recognized for her academic contributions, receiving numerous accolades. Her teaching career came to a close on Nov. 1, 2001. She also operated a gem and book store called Touched Stones in downtown Fredericksburg.

Surviving: son, Jim Stevick (Patricia) of Spotsylvania County, Va.; daughters, Hope Dauksz (Ed) of Fairfax, Va., and Sue Stevick of Raleigh; stepchildren, John, Tommy and Andy Wilson, all of South Carolina, and Missy Craver of Georgia; brother, Reginald Poole; sister, Dianne Poole; half sister, Marie Perry; stepmother, Alice Poole, all of Raleigh; and four grandchildren.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer‘s Association-Fredericksburg Office, 2217 Princess Anne Street, Ste. 106-F1, Fredericksburg, VA 22401; or Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight (Wednesday, June 17) at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, Va., and one hour prior to the service at the church.
