C. L. “BILLY” BOWDEN
May 12, 1933 – May 22, 2010
LOUISBURG – Charles Linzy “Billy” Bowden, 77, of Louisburg, went to be with his Lord May 22, 2010 after losing his battle to cancer.

Billy was a son of the late Herbert and Addie M. Bowden. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorena M. Bowden; son, Wayne Bowden; stepson, Steve Acree; infant grandson, Brian Lee Kidd, and his brother, William “Pete” Bowden.

Billy was a native of Franklin County. He was a former member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church, later becoming a member of Castalia Baptist Church. He was a charter member of Justice Volunteer Fire Department and a retired member of 20 plus years. Billy was very active in Relay for Life. He was an apprentice carpenter under Elmo Medlin of Justice and worked under J.B. Hight of Louisburg. Billy was a farmer and an employee of Gay Products, Louisburg. Through many years of hard work, he became a well respected carpenter, cabinet builder, electrician, and plumber. Of all his accomplishments, he was a great Dad and Pepa.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle P. Bowden; daughters, Faye B. Miller (Donnie), Lynette B. Watkins, Clara B. House (Danny); stepdaughters, Ruth Gilliam (Bobby), Karen Kilmer (Paul); stepsons, John W. Acree (Sally), Dale Miller (Donna); sisters, Elnora Braswell, Eloise Hux (Henry), Jeanette Dunnavant (Devin), Anna Baines (Johnny); sister-in-law, Marie Bowden; aunt, Idalene Marshall; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews.

Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Duke Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Jetton and the Rev. Jimmy Carpenter officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Justice Volunteer Fire Department, 4113 NC 581, Spring Hope, NC 27882.
