MARVIN D. HAGWOOD
BUTNER – Marvin Dexter Hagwood, 83, son of the late Marvin B. and Mary Preddy Hagwood, died Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011 at Durham Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel.  Officiating will be the Rev. David Averette.  The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the funeral home.

He was born and raised in Franklinton, graduating from Franklinton High School.  He spent his entire career with the US Army, serving during the Korean War, then serving with the National Guard for 33 years, retiring in 1988.  He was a member of Franklinton American  Legion, Post #52, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving: wife, Nancy Sherron Hagwood;  children, Connie H. Paul of Tampa, Fla., Laurie Ann McFarland of Youngsville, Dean Hagwood of Youngsville; stepdaughter, Lisa Proctor of Butner; brother, William C. Hagwood of Franklinton; one grandson, two granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058; the Franklinton Baptist Church, 102 W. Mason Street, Franklinton, NC 27525; or to a charity of your choice.
