INDIANOLA, IA - Doris L. Dop, 84, passed into eternity on July 6, 2011 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Indianola, IA. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the First Baptist Church of Indianola with Rev. Homer Ford officiating.

Doris was born to Joseph and Meta Lee (Stainback) Cottrell on February 20, 1927, in Louisburg, N.C.  She worked for the FBI from 1943 to 1948 where she met and fell in love with Dale Dop from Pleasantville, IA.  They married March 20, 1949, and moved to Indianola where they made their home together until his passing in 2005.

Doris also worked as a clerk at Grahams Department Store, as a cook at Irving Elementary school and for the Department of Human Services before retiring in 1992.  She was a member of American Business Women and has been an active member of First Baptist Church since 1949.  

Doris enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and in recent years her great-grandchildren.   She will be remembered for her style and grace as well as her excellent gardening skills, wonderful home-cooked meals and her love of chocolate.

Doris is survived by her son, Dennis Dop (Sandy Green); her daughter, Darlene Lawyer and her fiancé Jim Bussanmas, all of Indianola; her daughter-in-law Diana (Roger) Mitchell of Dawson Springs, KY; her sisters, Hazel Mahoney of Springfield, VA, Mary (Lynn) Rice of Lakeland, FL, Elaine (Coy) Duke of Louisburg, N. C.; her brother-in-law, Arlen (June) Dop of Urbandale; brother-in-law Dean Harvey of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Jack Cottrell, and son Dwight. 

Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the First Baptist Church where family members were present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Indianola First Baptist Church.  On-line condolences may be made to www.overtonfunerals.com.
