W.B. PEARCE
January 2, 1924 – July 19, 2011
CASTALIA - Willie Bruce Pearce better known as “W.B.”, passed away at his home on July 19th, 2011.

He was born in Franklin County on January 2. 1924. His parents were the late Willie P. Pearce and Lizzie Lancaster Pearce.

He graduated from Edward Best High School with the class of 1943. He served in the US Army throughout World War II in the Pacific Arena. After World War II, he returned to Franklin County and married Laura Harriett Edwards Pearce. They were together for 59 years until her death July 1, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Clemon Pearce and Leamon Pearce. Red Bud Baptist Church was a part of his heritage where he served as deacon for many years until Alzheimer’s became his worst enemy in 2000. He served on the Franklin County School Board from 1969 to 1972.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 22, at 11 AM in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park with military honors The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, from 7-8:30 PM at the funeral home.

Surviving a son, Bruce Pearce and wife Sue of Halifax, VA; and daughter Carol Davis and husband Garry of Louisburg; grandchildren: B.J. Pearce and wife Kristy of Richmond, VA, Will Pearce and wife Karen of Richmond, VA, Jarrett Pearce of Radford, VA, and  Jonathan Davis of Wilmington, NC; two great-grandsons, Matthew Pearce and Austin Pearce, both of Richmond, VA; special niece, Betsy Leonard of Tifton, GA; and  nephew, Bill Pearce of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving: two caregivers, Donna Davis and Nellie Johnson of the home;  special friends, Staley and Corrine Leonard of the Red Bud community; and a host of cousins and other friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers North Carolina, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27608.
