HAZEL KEMP COLLIER

LOUISBURG - Hazel Kemp Collier, 86, passed away on August 28, 2011 at Louisburg Nursing Center. Hazel was a daughter of the late Herman C. Kemp, Sr. and Clara Gilliam Kemp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Collier; sons, Richard “Dickey” Collier, Jr. and Thomas Collier; granddaughter, Kim Collier; sister, Jean K. Looper; and brother, H.C. “Red” Kemp, Jr.

A lifelong resident of Louisburg, Hazel operated Dick’s Drive-In for thirty years. She was a member of Louisburg Baptist Church. Hazel volunteered at the Louisburg Senior Center for more than twenty years. Hazel received the North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 2003. An avid card player, Hazel enjoyed bridge, gin rummy—and winning. She enjoyed travelling and never met a stranger. Hazel will be missed by her family and many friends.

There will be a Memorial Service on September 11th at 2:30 p.m. at Louisburg Baptist Church. Everyone is welcome.

Hazel is survived by her son, Darrell (Rachel) Collier of Franklinton; nieces, Susan Roberts of Raleigh and Joy (Dan) Bolger of Ft. Myer, VA; aunt, Edith K. Frisbie; many cousins and friends, including Barbara and Gerald Eury.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Louisburg Baptist Church, 302 North Main St., Louisburg, NC 27549.
