JOHN H. JONES
GARNER - The Rev. John Henry Jones, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006 at Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cary. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Nov. 9, at Poplar Springs Church in Garner, with the Rev. Charles Brooks officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

He was born in Wake County to the late Lee Jones and Gertrude Hester Jones of Garner. He served two years in the U.S. Army during which time he married Nellie Ruth Ings.

Rev. Jones served in the Christian ministry from 1957 until his death, ministering in Wake, Franklin, Vance, Alamance, Granville and Warren counties. He was also active in many civic organizations.

Surviving: his wife, Ruby Elliott Jones; brother, Jimmie Mack Jones; sister, Katie Jones Denning, both of Garner; sons, Johnny (Lena) and Roy (Jeanne), both of Raleigh, and Alton (Cathy) of Jackson, Mo.; daughters, Patricia Denning and Vivian Pittman-Jones, both of Raleigh, and Priscilla Akpaita of Charlotte; extended family - sons, Glen Massey (Odessa) of Fuquay-Varina and Dexter Elliott (Barbara) of Raleigh; daughters, Diane McCollum of Fuquay-Varina and Sandra Vance (Wally) of Richmond, Va.; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Haywood Funeral Home, Raleigh and Cutchins Funeral Home, Franklinton.
