Eddie was an educator and coach for 32 years in Franklin County, primarily at Louisburg and Bunn High School. Also, he was an avid history enthusiast which was his favorite subject to teach. He taught the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Poplar Spring Baptist Church for a couple of decades.

He was born July 8, 1951 in Raleigh, NC.  He was a graduate of Bunn High School, an undergraduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and he received his Masters from East Carolina University.

An avid sports fan, he has constantly followed the Tarheels and the New York Yankees. He was a season ticket holder for UNC football for over 38 years and took trips to Yankee Stadium as often as possible.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Judy; a son, Andrew “Drew”; mother, Lucille Richards; sister, Charlene Shannahan; 1 grand-niece; and 2 faithful companions, Jeter and Dexter.

He was preceded in death by his father, E.G. Richards.

The family received friends at Strickland Funeral Home on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.  Funeral services were held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Poplar Spring Baptist Church, with the burial to follow at Gethsemane Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Poplar Spring Baptist Church, American Diabetes Association, or a charity of your choice.
