GENE G. FLOYD
RALEIGH - Gene Gooch Floyd, 78, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at MItchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh.

He was born in Franklin County to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Clifton Floyd. He graduated from Hugh Morison High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps just after the Korean War and later worked  at N.C. State University’s Textile Chemistry Department in research and development. He retired from NC State University in 1995.

Surviving: wife, Peggy Drawdy Floyd; daughters, Terry F. Anderson (Ronnie) and Sherry F. Stubbs (Bob); sister, Virginia Beddingfield (Richard); and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Floyd.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Gene to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 401 Harrison Oaks Blvd., Ste. 200, Cary, NC 27513.
