Mrs. Goodwin was born July 3, 1915 to the late Leonard F. Cotten and Estelle S. Cotten in Pitt County, NC.  She lived much of life in the Stem community in Granville County and over 40 years in Louisburg, NC.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Alfred M. Goodwin.

She was a 1937 graduate of East Carolina Teachers College and taught elementary school for over 30 years in Wake, Granville and Franklin counties.  After retiring, she did volunteer work with Franklin Regional Hospital and was very proud of being past president of the Raleigh District of the United Methodist Women.  She also enjoyed her association with the Current Literature Club in Louisburg.  She loved her students and through her teaching encouraged many to follow in her profession.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Barnhill and husband, Mack of Raleigh; son, Leonard Goodwin and wife, Elaine of Durham; grandchildren; Christopher Goodwin of Durham and Pamela Hoke and husband, Kevin of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas Beruk of Raleigh; sister Annie Laura Cotten of Durham.  Special caretakers, Lottie Tucker, Barbara Alston and Gail Ragland.

Visitation will be held at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. where funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Madison Hankal at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
