SPRING HOPE – Dianne Massey Carter, 56, of 12145 Anderson Rd., died suddenly Friday night. Mrs. Carter was the director of Elementary Education and Title I for Franklin County School Systems. Among her many awards are the Governor’s Award for Excellence in 1989 – 1990, Teacher of the Year for Franklin County in 1990 – 1991 and 1993—­­1994, Teacher of the Year for the State of North Carolina in 1994 – 1995, and a member of the Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. Teacher Advisory Committee in 1999. Throughout her career, Mrs. Carter not only influenced the lives of students, she was a mentor and invaluable resource to the teachers of Franklin County.

She was born in Franklin County, daughter of the late Reverend Preston C. Massey and her mother, Estine Lewis Massey of Zebulon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Carter in 2005.

Funeral service was held 11:00 am Monday at Rocky Cross Holiness Church with burial following in the church cemetery.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Joan Massey of Spring Hope, Garry and Barbara Massey of Zebulon; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Rocky Cross Holiness Church, 12524 Anderson Rd., Zebulon, NC 27597.

The family received friends 3:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, and other times at the home of Mrs. Estine Massey, 261Carlyle Rd., Zebulon, NC 27597.
