EARL O. HORTON JR.
ZEBULON - Earl Oliver Horton Jr., 81, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at Wake Med. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 23) at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 1794 Wendell Blvd., Wendell, with the Rev. Bill Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church.

He was born in Wake County to the late Earl Oliver Horton Sr. and Pearl Johnson Horton. Together, he and his wife ran a catering business out of their home. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked for Southern Bell and retired from AT&T with 40 years of service. After retiring, he worked several years for Bunn Communications.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Rhodes Horton.

Surviving: son, E. O. Horton III (Nela) of Zebulon; daughter, Griselda H. Goodwin (Neal) of Marietta, Ga.; sister, Mona Dean (Proctor) of Wendell; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
