HERBERT STRICKLAND
ZEBULON - Herbert Strickland, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 at Wake Med Rehab Center in Zebulon. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 24) at Rocky Cross Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

He was born in Nash County to the late Burgess and Annie Strickland. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired from the Navy after 24 years of service. Following his first career, he retired with 20 additional years of service as a maintenance supervisor with N.C. State University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Brent; and his siblings, Marvin, Alton, Bobby Lee, Crama S. Crater and Pauline S. Bobbitt.

Surviving: his wife, Jane P. Strickland; children, Rhonda Strickland Wallace of Port St. Joe, Fla., Lisa Strickland Lewis (Kenneth) of Roswell, Ga., Sarah Strickland Happel (Michael) of Cumming, Ga.; Jason Herbert Strickland of Raleigh; siblings, Odessa S. Smith of Gastonia, Leigh S. Robinson of San Diego, Calif., Mildred S. Leonard (Julian) of Rocky Cross, Margaret S. Williams (Norwood) of Pilot, Carvin Strickland (Janie P.) of Bunn Lake; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
