GOOD MORNING: At the time of this writing the weather outlook for tomorrow, Easter Sunday, appeared to be pretty decent, particularly when compared to the up ‘n down topsy-turvy stuff Mother Nature’s been throwing at us.
After a somewhat chilly night last night, temperatures were expected to rebound into the upper 60’s today (Saturday) followed by Sunny and even milder temperatures Easter Sunday. Let’s hope they’re right.

Man shot during home invasion
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects in a home invasion shooting that sent a father to the hospital Friday morning.
According to investigators, two men armed with a 45-caliber gun kicked in the back door to a Rough Lane home and drew the gun on Joshua Hargrove, 27, who was home with his six-year-old son.

A Louisburg woman sent suspects running for the hills after firing a warning shot that thwarted an apparent break-in attempt.
Avis Cottrell told deputies that she looked out of her kitchen door on Gap Loop Driver and noticed a shed door open at about 9:30 a.m. on April 4.

FRANKLKINTON — It’s too early to write figures down in pen, but town officials and its budget advisory committee got to work on the budget this week.
At least one item that staff and commissioners seemed to hope stayed in the budget during a work session on Tuesday night was a salary increase for employees.

Two Franklin County students have been selected to attend the prestigious Governor’s School program this summer is a reality.
Franklinton High School junior Joshua K. Limer and Louisburg High School junior Zoe W. Hinton will be attending Governor’s School East at Meredith College in Raleigh from June 17 until July 21.

Retired postal mail carrier Eddie Watson was intrigued by this butterfly-like creature that landed near him as he refueled his vehicle along Bickett Boulevard one morning this week. It intrigued him enough that he ended up doing a little research and learned that the highly detailed, colorful creature was actually a Cecropia moth -- more precisely a Hyalophora cecropia moth that can have a wingspan up to five or six inches.

‘Hunch’ leads Franklinton police to drugs
Following a hunch, Franklinton police arrested a man charged with transporting drugs.
According to a report by Police Chief John Green Jr., he was patrolling the area of Winston Street the evening of April 4 when he came upon a vehicle that, according to an informant, was being used to transport drugs.
The vehicle pulled into the driveway of a known drug user, according to the report, and Green waited.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert this week for a missing Franklin County man.
Law enforcement officials said Rufus Wade Brogden, 65, is believed to be suffering from a cognitive impairment.

Six area farmers suing over seed
Now, a half dozen farmers have brought suit against a tobacco seed producer and distributor, claiming the companies sold them a bad product.
On March 1, attorneys for Louisburg farmer Phillip Smith filed suit in Franklin County Civil Superior Court, alleging that Cross Creek Seed, a producer of tobacco seed in Raeford, and Crop Production Services, a Colorado-based distributor/seller of tobacco seed with a local office in Nashville, misbranded and falsely labeled the product.

Downright disturbing!
An investigation in nearby Durham County is enough to raise the hackles of Tar Heels everywhere — and deserves special mention.

I had to giggle recently when I attended the NC Cooperative Extension Annual Conference in Greensboro when administration at NCSU  “unveiled” Extension’s initiative for the upcoming year … the Local Food movement and how Cooperative Extension needs to be a major player to assist in the development of sustainable agricultural economies in each county.

I almost did not make it to the last Mid-Week Community Service of prayer and devotion at Benson Chapel of Louisburg College, sponsored by the Inter-Church Council of Louisburg.
As people of all denominations, gathered and began to prepare hearts and minds for worship, I felt so blessed with a warm feeling of belonging, a feeling that not everybody can claim, as there is so much suffering, sickness, and lack of faith that there is a God that can make things better.

FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton made a bit of history Thursday,  but it had nothing to do with their Northern Carolina Conference track and field victory over Northwest Halifax.
Instead, the day will be remembered for the first high school event staged at the new FHS Football Field. A middle school meet had been held at FHS last week.

BUNN -- One streak ended and other continued during Tuesday’s action at the annual The Franklin Times Franklin County Middle School Track and Field Championships at Bunn High School.
Cedar Creek’s five-year reign atop the boys standings came to a close as Bunn Middle erupted to 55 points to edge the Jaguars, who closed with 50 points.
