There were contested races in four of the county’s five municipalities Tuesday, but turnout was sparse.

“It’s important for people to come out and vote,” said voting precinct chief judge Susan Moss.

Candidates needed? Good guys need not apply
While waiting for a crush of voters to turn out on election day on Tuesday, I had time to think.
And I came to a conclusion — regular, honest folks just don’t run for office anymore.
Or, more to the point, they won’t run for public office anymore — at least not the most powerful and influential posts.

RALEIGH – I drive cars. I like cars. I want my car to be reliable, safe, and efficient.
That means I am the best expert you will ever find about how I feel about my car. That does not make me an authority on cars. If you ask me detailed questions about which car you should buy, how much you should pay for it, or how to maintain it, you would be well advised not to risk your money or life on the answers.

LOUISBURG -- To long-time Louisburg College women’s basketball observers, seeing Mike Holloman watch early-season games from a perch on the training table seemed a bit odd.
