CASTALIA - Kenneth “Roadie” McKinley Taylor, 85, of Castalia, died Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Franklin Regional Medical Center.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Jesse Faulkner Taylor, and his sister, Elsie Cone.  Mr. Taylor loved to go to his son, Wayne’s business, Taylor’s Exxon in Nashville, and spending Christmas at his daughter Connie’s home.  Graveside services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Taylor Family Cemetery in Castalia, with his grandson, Ken Hill, officiating.

Bicyclist charged with DUI
A Louisburg cyclist was taken to the hospital, then charged with driving under the influence after he rode into traffic.
According to a report by Trooper T.L. Hunt, Marcus Jones, 28, of Wilder Lane, was riding a bike on N.C. 39 near Jeffreys Road at about 6 p.m. on Dec. 3 when the incident occurred.

Miss Nu Epsilon crowned
Danajee Braswell was crowned the 7th Miss Nu Epsilon on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Louisburg United Methodist Church. She is the daughter of Efrem and Francheska Braswell of Louisburg and is a seventh-grader at Terrrell Lane Middle School. She was among five young ladies competing for the title.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies lined the Franklin County Superior Courthouse on Monday as they were sworn in by Superior Court Judge Robert Hobgood. About 67 officers took the oath of office after Sheriff Pat Green was sworn in at noon.

The town’s Christmas parade ran through town, ending at the National Guard Armory.

But what shoppers are neglecting is their safety.  According to Sheriff Green, “This time of year attracts more shopping-related criminal activity because of the larger crowds and the extended store hours.

Happy Holidays from the Franklin County Christmas Parade
Over a thousand spectators bundled up and braved the frigid temperatures to watch the Franklin County Christmas Parade in Louisburg this past Sunday. The parade, put on by the Greater Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, featured a variety of floats,  high school bands, cars, trucks, emergency vehicles and other participants that made up the 104 entries.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Louisburg College made it all the way back from a slow start during last Saturday afternoon’s road women’s basketball matchup at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Trailing by 13 points at halftime, the Lady Hurricanes eventually took the lead down the stretch -- only to see the host Lady Pioneers respond in the clutch to earn a 65-60 decision.

BUNN -- Last Friday night’s boys basketball showdown between non-league rivals Nash Central and Bunn featured almost an exact scenario to the earlier girls matchup.
Just with the outcome switched.
In the girls game, Bunn was the better team down the stretch, and the Ladycats were able to pull away for the victory.

LOUISBURG -- When he took the job over the summer, new Louisburg High School girls basketball coach Brett Kiger emphasized that his program wouldn’t miraculously turn into a contender overnight.
That fact was accentuated last Friday night as the Lady Warriors, in Kiger’s first game, were defeated 44-25 at home against perennial area powerhouse Southern Vance.

Vikings Claim No. 1 Spot
FRANKLINTON -- Thanks to a head-to-head tie-breaker, the Northern Vance Vikings were able to earn the team championship last Saturday at the Red Ram Duals at Franklinton High School’s Gymnasium.
Northern Vance and Louisburg both went 4-1 overall, but the Vikings topped the Warriors during their match. NV was also upset against Kerr-Vance Academy.

Robin Faulkner, principal of Bunn High School, announces the Honor Roll for the 2010-11 first six-weeks grading period. To be named to the A Honor Roll, a student must make no grade lower than 93. To be named to the A-B Honor Roll, a student must make no grade lower than 85.
