The Franklin County Board of Education approved the following personnel changing during its meeting on Monday, Sept. 13:
The Franklin County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Public Open House will be held Oct. 5 from 5-6 p.m. in the Commissioners Room at 113 Market Street, Louisburg.

Louisburg police took into custody a 27-year-old Baltimore woman wanted on attempted murder charges.
According to a police report, Baltimore Police took out warrants on Sept. 1, charging Alicia Ann Smith with attempted first degree murder, assault in the first and second degree, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and reckless endangerment.

FRANKLINTON -- Brannon Perry has a reputation as a strong finisher -- a trait he did nothing to dispel during Wednesday’s latest installment of the Northern Carolina Conference cross country schedule at the Franklinton Recreation Park.
Perry, who is a veteran standout for Bunn, was running closely with Roanoke Rapids’ Matthew Williams heading into the final 400 yards of competition.

FRANKLINTON -- Most coaches abhor the thought of a sporting event ending in a tie.
But during Wednesday’s Northern Carolina Conference showdown between Franklinton and Bunn, both FHS’ Jordan Germano and BHS’ Ben Daniels saw some merit in the hard-fought, 1-1 equalizer at the Franklinton Recreation Park.

BUNN -- Bunn’s Ladycats -- the long-time queens of the Northern Carolina Conference -- welcomed league newcomer Corinth Holders to the Bunn Dome on Thursday for the first time.
Corinth Holders, in its initial year of existence, has a volleyball program that currently consists of just freshmen and sophomores. But the Lady Pirates certainly have shown some promise for the future during their NCC matches to date.
Louisburg College’s first Athletic Hall of Fame Class induction in 2007 was a black-tie event that featured a star-studded initial list of inductees -- including the likes of legendary coaches Russ Frazier, Sheilah Cotten and J. Enid Drake.
LC is taking a more laid-back approach to its second HOF celebration, which will be held on Oct. 16 as part of the school’s annual Homecoming/Alumni Weekend.

LOUISBURG -- For the Louisburg Lady Warriors, it’s currently the calm before the storm in the Northern Carolina Conference volleyball schedule rotation.
The Lady Warriors are winding down the first-half portion of their NCC worksheet before starting the second go-round next Thursday with a key road matchup at Franklinton.

LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg Lions will have their first home football game beginning today at 4 p.m. at historic Patterson Field on the campus of Louisburg High School.
There will be three contests -- Mini Mites, Mighty Mites and Pee Wees -- as Louisburg will tangle with Clayton.
There will be giveaways for the first 25 paid admissions at the gate.
FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton begin its East Wake Football Leauge ledger last Saturday with a bit of the first-game jitters against Knightdale at the Franklinton High School Football Field.
In Pee Wees, Franklinton fell 60-20 to Knightdale.

FRANKLINTON -- Dipping below or rising above the dreaded .500 line was at stake when Oxford Webb collided with Franklinton during a non-conference gridiron showdown Friday at the FHS Football Field.
Both clubs entered the matchup with identical 2-2 records, but Webb departed with more room for optimism after a convincing 37-14 decision over the Red Rams.
DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne piled up the first 19 points of the game and never looked back en route to earning a 33-20 home victory Friday night against the Louisburg Warriors.
It was the first victory of the season for the Saints, while Louisburg dropped to 1-3 overall heading into next week’s Northern Carolina Conference opener at home against Roanoke Rapids.

The combined verbal and math scores of Franklin County high school students on the SAT college entrance exam climbed a bit over last year’s totals but still lagged behind both statewide and national averages.
Two of three local high schools — Bunn and Franklinton — recorded increases in SAT scores while Louisburg’s tally dropped a bit lower than last year.
