OXFORD -- Bunn exploded for the final 35 points of the game and went on to defeat Oxford Webb by a 43-16 margin in a non-conference prep football matchup Friday in Granville County.
With the decisive victory, Bunn improved to 3-1 overall for the season. The Wildcats will be off next week before returning to action Sept. 24 at Nash Central.

LOUISBURG -- After spending the last two weeks in Raleigh, the Louisburg Warriors finally got to enjoy their home opener Friday at Patterson Field.
Louisburg was able to score on its initial offensive snap of both the first and second halves en route to a 33-12 decision over former league rival Southeast Halifax.

STEM -- Franklinton went on the road and churned out a 23-8 decision Friday at Granville Central.
The game was scoreless through the first half, but Franklinton got on the board when quarterback T.J. Wall delivered a 25-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kevin Williams in the third stanza of action.

The state Wildlife Resources Commission continues to investigate a hunting incident that killed a recently-graduated Louisburg High student.
Officers have yet to rule the death of Jared Kyle Wynne an accident or criminal matter.
“Right now,” Wildlife Resource Commission Lt. John Reams said, “it’s under investigation.”

FRANKLINTON — The last stop of a holiday DWI checkpoint proved to be the best as officers seized nearly 70 grams of marijuana from a sport utility vehicle.
Officers charged Trever Joseph Gledhill with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; maintain a vehicle for the sell of a controlled substance; driving while impaired; and misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana.

Support amendment preventing felons from being elected sheriff
Nearly invisible in the highly partisan political storm that is preceding the November General Election is an important constitutional amendment that will face North Carolina voters.
At a time when partisan politics are white hot and passions are running high, it may prove difficult to get voters to focus on the more mundane, nuts-and-bolts part of state government that can, in the long run, make far more difference than any other individual race.

There is no surprise on ObamaCare costs
RALEIGH – A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association is being described as “surprising” because it undercuts the promise of ObamaCare to cut health care costs by reducing emergency-room visits.
I have no doubt that some politicians and activists in North Carolina and beyond have found the study’s conclusions surprising.

The Ugandan Orphans Choir will be performing a free concert at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4272 US Highway 401 N., Louisburg, on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. This special concert is in celebration of Children’s Sabbath. These children were some of the neediest children in Uganda. Now, they are the fortunate few that have been rescued from a life of hunger and poverty and given the opportunity for education and spiritual development.
