Louisburg firefighters responded to a fully-involved house fire at 634 Moulton Road at about 5 p.m. on Thursday. According to Fire Chief Timmy Smith, a child inside the home noticed that the living room was getting hot and alerted his parents. They could not get to the extinguisher in time and the child’s dad tried to beat back the fire, but sustained a minor injury to his hand.

FRANKLINTON — Commissioners approved two requests Tuesday night designed to bring more business to the community.
First, the board approved a special-use permit allowing a Raleigh couple to open an Internet Sweepstakes Cafe in town.
And the board approved a special-use permit allowing the new operators of a slot-car racing outlet to expand their operation into a full game room.

Franklinton proposes water and sewer rate hike
FRANKLINTON — Town staff have proposed raising water and sewer rates after the state warned that the system may not be sustainable otherwise.
In February, the state Treasurer’s Office sent the town a letter noting that the town’s general fund, and water and sewer expenditures exceeded appropriations.
