Extension Agent Will Strader is leaving Franklin County to return to his roots.
Strader came from Caswell County in June 2006 to help Franklin County farmers cultivate their gardens, manage their crops, timber, ponds and wildlife.

FRANKLINTON — A shooting last week led to an arrest on unrelated charges, but the apparent trigger-person remains at large.
Sgt. Wade Bulloch responded to Sterling Street the evening of May 14 after hearing shots being fired.
Louisburg firefighters responded to a fully-involved house fire at 634 Moulton Road at about 5 p.m. on Thursday. According to Fire Chief Timmy Smith, a child inside the home noticed that the living room was getting hot and alerted his parents. They could not get to the extinguisher in time and the child’s dad tried to beat back the fire, but sustained a minor injury to his hand.

FRANKLINTON — Commissioners approved two requests Tuesday night designed to bring more business to the community.
First, the board approved a special-use permit allowing a Raleigh couple to open an Internet Sweepstakes Cafe in town.
And the board approved a special-use permit allowing the new operators of a slot-car racing outlet to expand their operation into a full game room.

FRANKLINTON — Town staff have proposed raising water and sewer rates after the state warned that the system may not be sustainable otherwise.
In February, the state Treasurer’s Office sent the town a letter noting that the town’s general fund, and water and sewer expenditures exceeded appropriations.
Milton Douglass of Louisburg was presented The Carying Heart Award for exemplary service on Friday, May 7, at The Carying Place in Cary, which was founded by Douglass.
Seventeen years ago, Douglass and a few dedicated volunteers started a program to help homeless families, and those on the verge of becoming homeless, gain life skills and independent living.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who preyed upon a subdivision in the Wake Forest area of the county.
According to a report by Dep. Doug Murphy, he was dispatched to 657 Fawn Court to speak with Joan Williams about vehicle break-ins on Monday morning.
