FRANKLINTON — Joseph Earl Massenburg, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 14, at First Baptist Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. André Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Manasseh Chapel Baptist Church cemetery, Franklinton.
He was born to the late Alma Holden and General Taylor Massenburg. In his formative years, he was mentored by Joseph B. F. Cutchins Sr. and assisted Mr. Cutchins at what was then named Franklin Funeral Home. He was employed by New Jersey Galvanizing Company and Eastern Cold Drawn Wire Company until retirement in 1999.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Kevin.
Surviving: wife, Angela Dorine; son, Gerald (Hilda); sisters, Jacqueline Massenburg, Mattie Gray and Clara Beards (Arthur); brother, Clarence (Margee); six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
