CLARKSVILLE, Va. --James Venable "Rusty" Massingill, 75, of Clarksville, VA, died Tuesday, April 4. A service is being held at St. Timothy's Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8.

He was born on May 27, 1941 to James Horace and Vivian Lawson Massingill. He served as an oceanographer with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC and was a teacher with the Mecklenburg County School System.

Surviving: his wife, Helen Hutcheson Massingill; his children, Michelle Massingill Cormack (Todd), John S. Massingill (Heather), Betsy Massingill Kessler (Matt); and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Timothy's Church, 111 6th St., Clarksville, VA 23927.
