WAKE FOREST--Margaret Weston Wilson, 71, of Wake Forest died on Sunday, March 8th, at her home after an extended illness. Margaret was born on December 27, 1948. She was the daughter of the late Clement Hunter and Gene Thompson Weston. She grew up in Franklinton, N.C.
Margaret graduated from Franklinton High School as valedictorian of her class in 1967. She attended Louisburg College where she was chief graduation marshall and a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Beta Gamma, and Sigma Pi Alpha. Her activities there included: Interclub Council, Glee Club, and Methodist Student Club. She continued her education at N. C. State University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in 1971.
Margaret's career, which encompassed 30 years of service to the State of North Carolina, ended with her retirement from the Office of The Controller. She helped various businesses computerize their operations, writing programs that accomplished operational goals and objectives. The North Carolina Medical Society and Marshall Oil Company came into the "computer age" through her expertise.
During her lifetime, Margaret held memberships and positions of leadership in the following clubs/organizations: Wake Forest Woman's Club (President), Wake Forest United Methodist Church UMW, Louisburg College Alumni Association (Board of Directors),
Gideon's Auxiliary (Vice President) Henderson Camp, Family Support Coordinator for SVC BTRY 5th BN 113th Field Artillery. She was inducted into the prestigious Artillery Order of the Molley Pitcher in 2003. In 1987, she was awarded the Louisburg College Distinguished Alumni Award for her dedication and service.
Margaret loved cooking, gardening, canning and preserving. She was also a baker, and enjoyed sharing her M & M Cookies and Peanut Brittle with shut-ins and senior citizens. Countless hours knitting, crocheting, and embroidering gave her great pleasure. She loved to travel and was an avid bridge player. Margaret was a perfectionist in every endeavor! Margaret had a brilliant mind. She retained everything she ever learned and shared this wealth of knowledge as a tutor for both adults and children. She especially looked forward to volunteering with young students at Wilton Elementary School.
Margaret was a servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday School and played the piano for services at both Leah's Chapel and Shiloh United Methodist churches. She was also a philanthropist. Many churches, organizations, and colleges benefited from her generosity! At the time of her death, Margaret was a member of Brassfield Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2020, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Ohlandt officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Family Cemetery, 4147 Old Franklinton Rd., Franklinton, NC 27525.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 31 years, Malvin Darrell Wilson, and sisters Mary Pat McGhee (George) of Franklinton and Gene Weston Strickland (Eddy) of Warrenton. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Hunter Lee McGhee (Stacey) of Atlanta, Mary McGhee Roberson (Ashley) of Youngsville, Susan Strickland Bell (Billy) of Nashville, Edward Allen Strickland (Courtney) of Elm City and Mary Catherine Strickland of Raleigh. Margaret enjoyed being great-aunt to Beth Williams, Sydney McGhee, Jenna McGhee, Jake Roberson, Claire Roberson, Hagen Strickland, Weston Strickland, and Nelson Strickland. She is also survived by stepdaughter, Janice Fleenor, and step-grandchildren, Joseph Wilson (Molly), Logan Wilson, and Anne Marie Carroll, all of Franklinton. Margaret was fortunate to have the following loving caregivers: Dorothea Ohlandt, Laura Gilley, and Rodger Mayes.
