James Macon Coghill

Greensboro, NC--James Macon Coghill Jr., 89, of Greensboro passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. He was the oldest child of James Macon Coghill, Sr., and Wilma Smith Coghill.

A graduate of Gold Sand High School in Louisburg, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Bryce Canyon. He retired after 33 years of service from the City of Greensboro. A member of Bethel Baptist Church, he treasured his friendship with Pastor Steve Gunther. James possessed a true Christian servant's heart. He especially enjoying cutting grass and making household repairs for those in his community, particularly the elderly.

He is survived by his son, Tony Coghill of Landrum, SC; his sisters, Helen Holmes of Tampa, FL. and Sue West of Louisburg; his brother Earl Coghill, also of Louisburg; and his cousin Elizabeth "Bunch" Arnold of Mt. Airy.

He was predeceased by his parents, James Coghill Sr. and Wilma Smith Coghill, and his brother, Curtis Coghill.

A memorial service will be held later at Bethel Baptist Church in Greensboro. A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Gunther, is planned for 1 p.m. on November 21, 2022, at Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2230 Lee's Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27405.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services.
