Richard Thomas Layton
March 23, 1942 - June 30, 2024

LOUISBURG, NC--Richard Thomas Layton passed peacefully after battling a series of health-related issues on June 30, 2024. He was born on March 23, 1942 to Mary Helen and Jack Thomas (J. T., also known as Bubba) Layton in Franklin County.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Faye Wheeler Layton. In addition, he is survived by his daughter, Kim (Andrew) Abbott; son, Jeff (Robin) Layton; grandchildren, Zachary (Sophia) Layton and Rianna Layton; a sister Barbara (George) Macon; a brother, Gordon (Linda) Layton and several nieces and nephews.

Richard's early careers were with Burlington Industries, Westinghouse, Department of Transportation, and his last tenure was with Nello Teer.

In his early years, Richard enjoyed numerous hobbies including watching go cart races, riding horses, hunting, playing rook, and coaching men's softball teams. As his passions changed over the years, he began raising goats, cows, donkeys, and growing hay, of course as we all knew Richard this was a financial hobby as well!!

Richard was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a pillar of the community. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a lifelong member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where he was a deacon, taught Sunday School, was a member of the finance, security, and building and grounds committees. Also, he was honored to be a part of the Service, Pray, Unity, and Relationship (S.P.U.R.) Group.

A service will be held at Flat Rock Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately after the service and at other times at the home of Faye Layton.

The family wishes to thank family and friends for all the prayers, calls, cards, support, and love shown to them during Richard's illness and passing.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Richard Layton. Please make all checks payable to Perry Thomas Frazier and mailed or submitted to Flat Rock Baptist Church, S.P.U.R. Group, 1529 Flat Rock Church Road, Louisburg.
