Peggy May Perdue

LOUISBURG - Peggy May Perdue, 85, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 11, 2024 at Duke University Hospital.

Peggy was the daughter of the late Halbert Wesley Spencer and Cornelia Ruth Radford Spencer. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Elton May; son and daughter-in-law Jimmy and Carla May; son-in-law Keith Fuller; grandson Eric Todd May, and brother, Harold Spencer.

Peggy was a graduate of Louisburg College and Atlantic Christian College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education. She enjoyed a 20 year career working with children as a kindergarten teacher at Louisburg Elementary School. She was a favorite teacher who shaped and influenced many young lives. She was a faithful and active member of Hill King United Methodist Church since the age of 17. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband James of 50 years, especially at the beach. She will be missed tremendously by her friends, family, and faithful pet, Trooper.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024, in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Hill King United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Peggy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Tracey May; daughter, Tamara Fuller; sister Kay Hunt and husband J. B.; grandchildren Erin Hodgson (Kevin), Emily Fuller, Amanda May, Adam May (Rachel), Rebecca May, and Kaiti Massie (Easton); and great-grandchildren, Evie Hodgson and Eric Massie, and sister-in-law, Shelby Spencer.

In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James E. May Scholarship Fund of Hill King UMC, c/o Ricky May, 1897 NC 39 Hwy. S. Louisburg, NC 27549.
