Michael Darryl "Mike" McDonald
August 2, 1943 - December 4, 2024

Hutchinson, KS -- Michael Darryl "Mike" McDonald, 81, of Hutchinson, died December 4, 2024, at Hospice House. He was born August 2, 1943, in Durham, North Carolina, to Michael David and Margaret Helen (Ayscue) McDonald.

Mike graduated from Franklinton (NC) High School in 1961, Butler Community College in 1981, and received his bachelor's degree from University of Albany (NY) in 1989. He served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1987, with tours in Japan, Germany, England, and California. Mike achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and retired as a contracting supervisor at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. He loved to golf and was an avid sports fan, especially the NC State Wolfpack and Kansas City Chiefs. Mike was a member of Loyal Order of Moose #982 and Westside Baptist Church.

On February 15, 1975, he married Betty Charlene Thomas, in Wichita. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: his daughter, Cindy Martin (J.W.) of Hutchinson; grandsons, Cody Herrin (Deanna) of Hutchinson, Troy Herrin (Sarah) of Bailey, CO, J.W. Martin III of Abilene, Trevor Yount of Hutchinson; six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James McDonald.

Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date at Westside Baptist Church.

Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Saturday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
