YOUNGSVILLE -- Town commissioners approved an ordinance amendment that would reward developers for maintaining buffers between developments.
Mayor Fonzie Flowers noted that he spearheaded the change after driving past a development that threatened to destroy a tree canopy that, in town, serves two purposes -- providing a natural buffer, as well as adding to the beauty of the town.

Authorities investigate shooting

FRANKLINTON -- Franklin County sheriff's deputies are looking for suspects involved in a chase that prompted gunfire.
No injuries were reported in the Aug. 13 incident, though.
According to authorities, a Franklinton man made plans to meet up with another person on Dixon Street that afternoon.

The Comic-Con is co-hosted by Play4Life Comics and the nonprofit Wake Forest Downtown Inc., on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Two of Franklin County's three high schools will swing into action this Friday night to kick off the 2022 prep football campaign.
And both schools -- Franklinton and Bunn -- will have new coaches at the helm.
Franklinton's first outing of the Elerod 'Mo' Morris Era will be a challenging one as the Red Rams will hit the road for a date with Class 4-A opponent Corinth Holders on the CHHS campus in Johnston County.

RALEIGH -- The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation announced today that the ninth annual Canes 5K presented by UNC Health and assisted by Raleigh Orthopaedic will take place at PNC Arena on Sept. 18 at 8:30 a.m.
The event will include a 5K around PNC Arena and the surrounding area, 100- and 200-yard kids' dashes and inflatables, as well as appearances by current and former Hurricanes players, team staff and Stormy.

SALISBURY, MD. - Jadher Areinamo went 2-for-4 with a run in the second while helping the Carolina Mudcats build an early 2-0 lead, but the homestanding Delmarva Shorebirds rallied for three runs over the final three innings while earning a series-tying 3-2 victory on Sunday evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The Mudcats (21-21, 55-53) originally led 2-0 through the fifth before seeing the Shorebirds (16-26, 37-30) score three unanswered runs with two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Authorities thwart 'shoot up the place' threat

LOUISBURG -- A Henderson man is slated to appear in district court next week on charges that he initiated threats that prompted the lockdown of a Youngsville business.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Cincear Zyair Glasco on Aug. 11, charging him with felony stalking, felony intimidating a witness and two counts of misdemeanor communicating threats.
