She was also the grandparent of two CCS students, Davin and Ravin Pickrel, and could be seen on the campus at any time with her beloved dachshund, Matilda.

Last season proved to be a learning experience for the Warriors, who were making the move up to the Big East with a young roster.

McMillan event is slated for Saturday

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- The First Annual 3-K Run/Walk In Memory of Akiah D. McMillan will be held this Saturday at Owens Park in Louisburg.
The event will be held from 8 a.m.-Noon at the park, which is located on the grounds of the former Bull Creek Golf Course at 499 Massenburg Baker Road.
T-shirts will be on sale, and donations will be accepted. Everyone is encouraged to join the event to support mental health.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- Two skippers with Franklin County connections have earned spots in the 2023 North Carolina Coaches Association's East-West All-Star Games.
Franklinton's Darrin Stinson has been selected as an assistant coach for the East Team at next July's East-West Football Game, which will be held at historic Jamieson Stadium on the campus of Grimsley High School in Greensboro.

FAYETTEVILLE - Jesus Chirinos broke a scoreless tie with a go-ahead double in the 10th inning, relievers Junior Montero and Miguel Guerrero struck out the side in the eighth and ninth respectively, and Brannon Jordan worked a scoreless tenth as the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 5-4 in ten on Sunday afternoon at SEGRA Stadium.

Down East contest is scheduled

ROCKY MOUNT -- The city of Rocky Mount, in collaboration with Elizabeth City State University, has announced the 25th Annual Down East Viking Football Classic will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 10 at the Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium.
This year's game will bring Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association football to the city as Elizabeth City State takes on Livingstone College in a conference rivalry matchup.
