FRANKLINTON -- A piece of property that was once a key part of extending the limits and opportunities for Franklinton was sold last week.And, according to a story in the Triangle Business Journal, its new owner, Novozymes, has no plans to develop it.In December 2021, Franklinton commissioners agreed to petition Franklin County, on behalf of Franklinton Development LLC, to extend the town's extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction to include the 51.55 acre site at N.C. 56 and Mays Crossroads -- a proposed development site across from Novozymes.

Born June 17, 1942 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Eva Davis Medlin and Elmo Allen Medlin. Evelyn was a member of West End Baptist Church for over forty years and was proud to say "I've read the Bible again from cover to cover." She retired from the Warren County School System after teaching in both Vance and Warren County high schools and held her National Board Teachers Certification. Evelyn loved teaching and being a positive influence on her students. Between teaching in Vance and Warren Counties, she sold real estate at the former Wester Realty Company.

LOUISBURG -- A Bunn man accused of supplying the drugs that killed a Louisburg man was sentenced to prison.On Monday, Taylor Austin Proctor pled guilty to death by distribution in Franklin County Superior Court.Franklin County sheriff's deputies arrested the 25- year-old in May 2021, alleging he sold heroin that led to an overdose death of Christopher Wells, 24.The arrest was the result of a four-month investigation, authorities said.

FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton went into its 2021-22 spending plan expecting to pull $430,000 from its savings account to balance the budget.And, right before the fiscal year ended, commissioners agreed to pull another $300,000 from its savings account to make sure the budget balances.Management said the additional, last-minute funding was necessary to make up for shortfalls on the revenue side -- including an expected $200,000 from the sale of surplus property, coupled with some additional spending that took place throughout the year.

LOUISBURG -- One of the suspects charged by the State Department of Insurance with mobile home work fraud is slated to appear in court next month.One of them has already pled guilty and received a prayer for judgement in the case.On March 17, special agents with the State Department of Insurance and Franklin County sheriff's deputies arrested John Edward Hight and Ernest Broughton Tharrington Jr., charging them both with two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense and two misdemeanor counts of setting up mobile homes without a license.
