LOUISBURG -- The Franklin County Board of Commissioners was set to discuss their spending plan this week.At press time, it was still not clear how the county would navigate its plan to lower the tax rate.County Manager Kim Denton presented commissioners and the public with a 2021-22 budget that proposes to spend $95.7 million while reducing the tax rate from 80.5 cents per $100 of valuation to 79.5 cents per $100 of valuation.

FRANKLINTON, NC--Medicus E. (Med) Bragg, age 97, passed away on November 26, 2021 at his home. Med was born in the Pocomoke community of Granville County to the late Bayard L. Bragg and Norma Moore Bragg in 1924. He attended N.C. State University, but left to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Wake Forest University and began work at his family's cotton gin in Franklinton. After his 1954 marriage to Louise Strother Bragg, who predeceased him in 2016, the couple moved to Washington, D.C. where he received a master's degree from George Washington University while working for the U.S. Senate Library.

LOUISBURG -- A Louisburg man was sentenced to prison for his role in the overdose death of a Nashville woman.Aaron Lloyd, 26, pled guilty to death by distribution on Aug. 15 and was sentenced to between 70 and 96 months in jail."The Death by Distribution statue that was created in 2019 has been an effective tool in our efforts to address the source of these dangerous drugs," Sheriff Kent Winstead said in a statement.
