YOUNGSVILLE -- Commissioners set in motion plans for a satellite annexation that further clears the way for a new ABC store.In the fall of 2020, the ABC board sold the N. College Street store and property it had outgrown, combining those funds and other revenues to open a new store in the Youngsville Crossing Shopping Center -- which opened its doors in the summer of 2021.

ROCKY MOUNT -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College Baseball team was ranked 13th with 252 points in Collegiate Baseball's Preseason Div. 3 Poll which was released last Tuesday.The Bishops are coming off a NCAA Regional appearance last season and a 33-win campaign overall (33-10) including 17-1 in the USA South that saw the Bishops fall in the championship game of the conference tournament.

LOUISBURG -- The restoration of a vintage machine that spent its working "life" protecting the Louisburg area has received a Certificate of Recognition from the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus and its old Dominion Historical Fire Society Chapter. The certificate recognizes the Louisburg Fire Department and the Louisburg Fire Museum for the restoration of the 921 American La France fire engine and the establishment of a town fire museum to preserve the department's history.

743.Breaking News: Section C of 401 funded; work to begin by 2019
Franklin County got some long-awaited good news from the North Carolina Department of Transportation Friday morning -- the construction of Section C of U.S. 401 has been funded.Construction of Section C, which runs from the Franklin-Wake county line north to the Royal crossroads is scheduled to begin by Fiscal Year 2019 -- and take about two years. The two-lane highway will be increased to four lanes in a Super Street design format, engineers said.
