COUNTY NATIVES TO HELP. Maude is getting some assistance from two Franklin County men who are making it big in the music business. Maude, of course, is the 1921 American La France type 75 fire engine that is once again owned by the Louisburg Fire Department. The truck was Louisburg's very first motorized fire engine and is a candidate for restoration. That's where Jason Michael Carroll and Larry Frick enter the picture. They have agreed to hold a concert fund-raiser on March 5 at the Louisburg College Jones Performing Arts Center.

FRANKLINTON -- Town commissioners approved a budget that reduces the tax rate, banks on continued growth of the tax base and seeds downtown development.Town Manager Gregory Bethea presented the board with a $2.1 million spending plan that reduces the tax rate from 72 cents per $100 of valuation to a rate of 71 cents.

Frances Mary Dorsey was born Nov. 21 to Thomas & Alice McTighe in Olyphant, Pennsylvania.The family moved to New Jersey shortly thereafter and eventually to Compton, Ca. At the age of 17, Frances began what would be a nearly 50-year career at Pacific Bell. In 1957 while out with her girlfriends she came across a handsome sailor from North Carolina. Talmadge the country boy & Frances the city girl married in Sept. 1958. They spent nearly 41 years growing their love & family. They welcomed daughters Lorrie Ann and Becky, followed by Brian eight years later. In her 60s she attended the University of Redlands & obtained her bachelor's degree in Business.

852.NCDOT earmarks funds for U.S. 401's Section C
Franklin County got some long-awaited good news from the North Carolina Department of Transportation late last week -- the construction of Section C of U.S. 401 finally has been funded.Construction of Section C, which runs from the Franklin-Wake county line north to the Royal crossroads is scheduled to begin by Fiscal Year 2019 -- and take about two years. The two-lane highway will be increased to four lanes in a Super Street design format, engineers said, similar to the design used on the Rolesville Bypass.

853.Election in tiny NC town could raise election spirits far & wide
I've lived in Franklin County and, specifically, Youngsville, for more than three years now.So, when countywide or municipal elections pop up, they engender a bit more excitement than they did for much of the previous 16 years when I "just" worked here.But, I'll tell you right now, there's an election that occurred in the tiny county of Graham -- population 8,441.
