LOUISBURG - Nannie Leonard Wrenn, 90, of Louisburg died February 17, 2012.  She was born in Warren County, NC on July 6, 1921, the daughter of the late Harry Williams Leonard and Maud Duke Leonard.  She married James Wrenn on November 26, 1938 and they lived in Franklin County until moving to Newport News, VA during World War II, where James worked in the shipyard.

LOUISBURG -- From an overall perspective, hitting was the major story of Louisburg College’s four-game weekend sweep over Suffolk Community College.
LC’s bats, which have yet to reach their potential early in the season according to Coach Mike McGuire, broke out in a big way as the Hurricanes delivered a whopping 44 runs for an average of 11 per contest.

FRANKLINTON -- For all but about five minutes, Franklinton’s Lester Wilder imposed his coaching will during last Friday’s matchup against Bunn in the Northern Carolina Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Championship.
Wilder’s strategy was almost identical to last year’s final, when FHS was dropped twice by Bunn in the regular season -- only to come oh-so-close to upsetting the Ladycats in the title game.

But this much has become crystal clear -- Alston does have a big-time college future.
Alston, Bunn’s junior wide receiver/defensive end, has already received scholarship offers from North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, East Carolina, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt.

The event will be held March 24 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Bunn High School Football Field.

RED OAK — Hours before roosters thought about crowing, local, state and federal authorities huddled inside the Red Oak Fire House, figuring out how they were going to shine light on a sneaky problem — sex offenders who flaunt the rules of the registry.
The result was Operation Sentry, a teaming of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, Franklin, Nash and Warren county deputies, and probation officers from across the region.

Plea offered to man charged with attempted murder, arson
The case against a man accused of attempted second-degree murder continues.
Gary Normand was arrested in March after investigators alleged he tried to set his girlfriend on fire before burning down their Youngsville home.
Prosecutors have offered Normand a plea, which includes jail time, and he appeared in court Thursday with his attorney, Buzzy Gardner.

Land deal for airport expansion nears end
Attorneys and a property owner are close to completing a purchase that will allow the county’s airport to expand.
In January, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners agreed to buy 64 acres adjacent to Triangle North Executive Airport, which is located on Airport Road between U.S. 401 and N.C. 39
The deal is not yet finalized, Airport Director Steve Merritt told airport commissioners on Tuesday.
