United Way Teachers’ Grants awarded
FRANKLINTON — Inside a company known for innovation, the United Way of Franklin County awarded more than $31,000 to teachers who will use that money to innovate their classrooms.
The organization held its annual Teachers’ Awards Reception last week at Novozymes.
In all, 67 teachers submitted applications requesting more than $180,000.

Job layoffs signal problems at FRMC that can’t be ignored
Layoffs of top management at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg last week amounted to red warning flares bursting in the sky.
To ignore those flags would be a huge mistake.
FRMC is part of the Novant Medical group, but even so, it should come as no surprise that the hospital is under enormous financial stress and strain — as is just about every other business in this county, state and nation.

GOOD MORNING: This is still the MIDWEEK edition of The Franklin Times, although it’s being published a day earlier than usual on account of the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.
That aside, Mother Nature continues to play around with the weather. In all my 84 years (yep! I turned 84 on Tuesday) I can’t recall a topsy-turvy weather pattern like we’ve been observing of late, and apparently there’s no end in sight.

Wreckers arrived on scene Friday night to clear the road following a three-vehicle, chain-reaction wreck on N.C. 56 near Lane Store Road. None of the injuries were life-threatening. According to Franklinton Police Sgt. K.J. Hornaday, a car had stopped to turn left into a driveway and a pickup truck stopped behind that car. A third pickup truck, driven by Brandon S. Coley, 19, of Franklinton, failed to stop, running into the back of the second vehicle, causing it to hit the first vehicle.

Looking for some exciting ways to celebrate the Holiday Season? Franklin County 4-H has a few ways to get you in that joyful Holiday spirit.
The first event 4-H is hosting is called Turkey and Treats and will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Extension Annex. The cost is $5 and it’s for ages are 5 and up.

Two FCS High Schools recognized for high student performance
Bunn High School and Franklinton High School were two of 14 North Carolina High Schools recognized during a luncheon ceremony at the Superintendent’s and Public Information Officer’s Quarterly Meeting in Research Triangle Park recently. They were honored for having at least 80 percent of students’ end-of-course test scores at or above proficient.

Franklinton parade
Franklinton’s annual Christmas parade will take place on Dec. 1, providing the only night-time parade in the county, which begins at 7 p.m. in downtown Franklinton.
The town’s OneFranklinton organization will also host  a Holiday Lights Tour on Dec. 10 at 6 p.m.
