For the first time ever, there is a good possibility that Franklinton, Louisburg and Bunn will all be in different classifications when the next North Carolina High School Athletic Association realignment begins in 2013.

FRANKLINTON -- With a chance to sweep Roanoke Rapids in rare fashion, the Franklinton Red Rams instead saw the Jackets return the favor from an early-season loss.
Roanoke Rapids scored two quick goals and went on to top Franklilnton by a 3-1 margin in a key Northern Carolina Conference boys soccer matchup Wednesday evening at the Franklinton Recreation Park.

BUNN -- Bunn High School will host its annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Fields of Faith event on Oct. 19 at the BHS Football Field.
Festivities will run from 7-8 p.m. There will be a band and speaker.
All Franklin County students and church youth groups are encouraged to attend. Admission is free.

HOLLISTER -- Franklinton placed two runners in the Top 10 of the girls individual standings during the most recent Northern Carolina Cross Country Meet.
FHS’ Jessica Woodburn was strong with a ninth-place finish at 24:07, while teammate Kayla Wetherell was one spot behind at 24:26 as part of Wednesday’s event at picturesque Medoc Mountain State Park.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Rocky Mount was in a giving mood Monday evening in the Gryphons’ Big East Conference opener against Nash Central at the Rocky Mount Athletic Complex.

LOUISBURG -- So much for the theory that Louisburg wouldn’t be effective while playing its fourth football game in a 12-day span.
The Warriors controlled the majority of the contest, but had to withstand some big plays from Warren County en route to earning a 30-28 decision in a key Northern Carolina Conference matchup at historic Patterson Field on the LHS campus.

Jones appointed sheriff
Franklin County’s sheriff’s office is under old management.
The county’s Board of Commissioners appointed Jerry Jones as its new sheriff on Monday night, filling the unexpired term of Pat Green.
Jones last served as the county’s sheriff from 2002 to 2006, losing out on a re-election bid to Green.

Airport facing lawsuit
A Wake County man is suing Franklin County over a bad landing at its airport.
Attorneys for Gary Hedrick filed a lawsuit in Franklin County Superior Court on Sept. 23, alleging that Franklin County’s negligence led to a slip and fall inside an airport bathroom in October of 2008.
Hedrick’s attorney, B. Joan Davis, argues that Hedrick sustained injuries that required surgery and continues to cause pain.

Court assigns judge to water lawsuit
A chief justice has deemed a legal dispute between Franklinton and Franklin County to be exceptional.
Chief Justice Sarah Parker gave an order on Sept. 30 that means, for continuity’s sake, all matters in the case will be overseen by Judge Paul G. Gessner.
Such declarations are often made in cases where it would be important for motions and other issues be heard by one judge to streamline the court proceedings.

Residents drop radio tower fight
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners again decided to table any action on plans to change how it approves radio towers.
This time the decision came after residents who live near a proposed tower site called the county out for its proposal to do away with zoning protections that would allow them to back-door the sites without much, if any, public input.

Day of Caring continues after weather delay
The United Way might want to consider a new name for one of its community efforts — Days of Caring.
Volunteers braved poor weather last weekend to help residents with some cleanup projects, but some more intense efforts were postponed until this past Saturday.
A crew of volunteers from Novozymes descended upon three homes on Saturday to build a handicap ramp, do some painting and provide some cleanup.

The Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments held its annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Warren County Armory and Civic Center in Warrenton. Chairman of the Kerr-Tar Board of Directors James D. O’Geary presided over the meeting, which hosted an attendance of 165.
