Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who stole more than $5,000 worth of equipment from a cable company.
Time Warner Cable Security Investigator Ron Korb reported on March 10 that someone had taken a node box and power supply unit from a company location near the Olde Liberty development.

Hospital hosts blood drive March 24
Franklin Regional Medical Center will host an American Red Cross blood drive on Thursday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 
The community is invited to donate blood on the American Red Cross bus, which will be located outside of the front entrance at Franklin Regional.

Scholarships offered
The Franklin Regional Medical Center Volunteers/Auxilians will be offering scholarships again this year with a minimum of $250 and a maximum of $1,000.
The scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors, hospital volunteers and hospital employees who plan on a profession in the medical field (for example, nursing, dental technician, EMT, etc.).

LOUISBURG -- The bad news for the Louisburg College baseball team is that the Hurricanes have dug themselves an early hole in the Region X standings.
However, Head Coach John Thomas offers a bit of encouraging news.
“We’ve still got 24 region games remaining,’’ Thomas said following his club’s league-opening home series last weekend against Pitt Community College. “Hopefully, this will wake our players up.’’

VGCC is done for the year
HENDERSON -- The Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards men’s basketball team recently closed out a difficult season with a loss in the opening round of the Region X Tournament.
On March 3, the Vanguards lost, 97-78, to Pasco-Hernando Community College (based in New Port Richey, Florida) in the Region X Division II tournament, held at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth.

HENDERSON -- The Vance-Granville Community College men’s golf team plans to play in at least seven intercollegiate matches or tournaments this spring during the team’s third season.
The 2011 campaign is the second for the team at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) level, having started as a club sport in 2009.

FRMC seeks Certificate of Need
Officials at Franklin Regional Medical Center confirmed this week they are seeking a state Certificate of Need (CON) that would allow them to create a geriatric psychiatry unit on the third floor of the Louisburg hospital.
Jason Proctor, chief executive officer of the hospital, said creation of the unit will cost an estimated $5 million and that it would serve mostly patients age 65 and older.

An animal advisory board wants county leaders to hold staff accountable for systemic, repeated failures in animal control that recently led to the death of a family pet.
The board came to that conclusion on Wednesday night after listening to Jessica Ruiz, and her daughter, Victoria Dupree, recount the story through tears, frustration and anger.

Bunn moves to improve water treatment plant
BUNN — Commissioners moved another step toward improving its wastewater treatment plant.
About two years ago, the town secured a $500,000 grant from the N.C. Rural Center and a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan would cover the rest of the roughly $1.5 million project.
On Monday night, the board agreed to apply to the Local Government Commission to get approval to finance the project.

Managers of Franklin County’s airport are hosting an event to close a disparity gap.
They want more women in airplanes.
According to Women In Aviation International, a nonprofit organization designed to draw women into flight, women make up only 6 percent of the nearly 600,000 active pilots in the United States.
