Anonymous heroes step up to prevent possible high school tragedy
Sometimes those who make the biggest difference are those who do it anonymously — for all the right reasons — but who never get the credit they really deserve.
Yet they make a difference, sometimes without even realizing how big a difference they have actually made.
Such is the case here in Franklin County this week.

Some folks don’t understand the shudder I experience about every time the word Facebook is spoken.
Nor do they understand why some of us want nothing to do with this social networking stuff that can cause a great deal of grief if you aren’t very, very careful!
Truth is, most folks are not very careful -- and get more careless the longer they use the service.

Knott says Pernell is no “Poll” cat; biker punished already by truck
GOOD MORNING: If I owed someone a cold day and they wouldn’t accept this past Wednesday in payment thereof, they’d just have to go unpaid as far as I’m concerned.
When I went down to pick up the paper shortly after dawn, my outdoor thermometer was reading 14.5 degrees and it never got out of the 30’s all day. And the heck of it is that it ain’t even winter yet. According to my calendar, winter doesn’t officially begin until Dec. 21.

Etheridge’s outgoing address to Congress
Madam Speaker, I rise today to address the House.  I will be leaving Congress at the conclusion of this term, and I want to take a few minutes to speak to my colleagues and to the people of North Carolina’s Second Congressional District – the people whose hopes and dreams, whose fears and apprehensions, whose challenges and opportunities have been my first and only priority every day for the past 14 years.

Knott is proud of Mayor Pernell
Dear Editor:
I am proud that Karl Pernell is the mayor of Louisburg. He is dedicated and totally committed to do all he can to help our town grow. He spends a great deal of time trying to improve our government. There is no question but that he has the support of our citizens in Louisburg. He certainly does not deserve the criticism he is receiving from The Franklin Times.

Continuation of a sad conspiracy
Continuation of a sad conspiracy
We are in the middle of Advent, and we continue to look at the “reason for the season,” so to speak.
It is not easy to let go of consumption and consumerism. As I mentioned in last week’s Saturday article, the ideas of Mckinley, Seay, and Holder, authors of Advent Conspiracy, can be very valuable in our daily lives.

WILSON -- The year may be different, but the Bunn High School boys basketball team continues to find a way to win tight games.
This scenario has become a trademark of Coach Gerald Melton’s tenure at BHS, and it continued Wednesday night on the road against non-conference foe Wilson Fike.

A Big East Power?
A Big East Power?
WILSON -- Too bad the Bunn Ladycats aren’t members of the Big East Conference -- they would already be making their way up the league’s girls basketball standings.
Bunn opened its campaign last week with a home victory against Big East member Nash Central, and the Ladycats were set to take on their second foe from the league when they traveled to Wilson Fike this Tuesday.

Holiday sporting thoughts
Holiday sporting thoughts
A few thoughts as we get closer and closer to Santa Claus paying his annual visit:

Bunn’s Numbers Game
HENDERSON -- Thanks to overflowing interest in the Bunn Middle School mat team, Bunn High head coach Mike Diaz certainly has reason to be optimistic about the future of his varsity program.
But for now, the Wildcats continue to be hampered by a lack of numbers -- and that intangible showed up again Thursday during a road matchup against the Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans.
